Shortly before her marriage to her childhood sweetheart, David Tredman, he dies and Lillian takes her first drink of many down the road of becoming an alcoholic. Review :

Not your typical soaper

There are some amazing scenes in this movie, with Susan Hayward & Jo Van Fleet, as Lillian and her mother. The actresses are at their best and there are moments in which they flirt with brilliance. This is not your typical Hayward soaper, but an intelligent movie about people and their problems.
