A pretty good Universal western

Once more, I am surprised that little western has not be commented yet.

I think it's a pretty good one, colorful, action packed, with famous actors such as Lex Barker, Howard Duff, John Mc Entire as good as ever and Leo Gordon, the bad guy, of course, the "heavy one".

Gunfights, fists fights, mine scenes, ...This little movie was a really good surprise to me.

Its the rarest Jesse Hibbs western available. Because there is not Audie Murphy in it?

Anyway, this feature doesn't deserve to be ignored. Not at all.

I saw it from a 16mm print, perhaps no TV broadcast has aired it yet...

Dated

Possible spoilers!! I found this a rather dull and very dated Irish/British comedy/satire set in a large ancestral Irish mansion. My wife found it amusingly eccentric. It was written as a stage play and its premise is that of an eccentric family living beyond their means. They have to take in PG's (paying guests). Half the family are in favor and the other half endeavour to sabotage's the money making scheme. There's love interests, a kooky aunt who may save the day and a hunt for treasure. Good natured and predictable, not memorable. Jimmy Edwards manages to blow on a few brass instruments which I believe is a bit of a trademark with him.

This is the true story of the National Hero of Albanians, George Kastrioti Scanderbeg, from his birth to his death. 1405-1468. Based mainly upon the monk writer Marin Barleti, the movie starts off with how the boy Scanderbeg was taken hostage by the ottoman turks and trained from them until he became one of the most outstanding warriors of the Ottoman Empire, then later returned home to his country to organized the oppressed Albanians into a fierce and heroic resistance for over 30 years. After converting from Islam to Christianity (the religion of ancestors) he managed to keep the greatest empire on earth at the time from invading Albania. His story is an inspiration to generations of Albanians, wherever they lived.

Great movie for it's time

The movie tells about the legendary almost mythical exploits of George Castriot Scanderbeg against one of the most ruthless and greatest empires of the world, the Ottoman Empire. I gave this movie a 7 however because it does not portray Scanderbeg's true image. He was not a mountain dweller rather he was a Prince of very noble blood, and it said in the chronichles of the Musachi Princes and in the biography of Jacques Lavardine that Scanderbeg's family could trace back it's roots up to 30 generations, and that they were directly tied to the legendary Phyrrus King of Epirus descendant of the Achilles the Epirotan, and from there stems the powerful race of the Epirotans a semi pelasgian-illyrian tribe. This background is not in the movie, partly because those information came only in the last 20 years, which makes me wonder when will Hollywood write a script about the true story of what can be called the last warrior king and erudite in the same fashion as the Arthurian legends(only this one we know for sure to be real) and many other valorous comandants of the history of mankind.

We had Troy, Alexander and even Hercules, now it's time to write about the great Scanderbeg and how he saved Europe from the Ottoman threat by fighting with them alone(with minor support from the Pope) for more then 25 years.

This is a must see movie, I don't know if they have managed to put subscripts, but the music is certainly amazing, and considering hat this was done with the help of the russians because albania was too poor to afford such a movie I think that overall for the time, for the knowledge we had about Scanderbeg, or I should say the widespread common knowledge that we had about him, this is truly a remarkable movie with it's artistic elements.

The guy who plays Scanderbeg is also the best match they could find. I'm sure the counterpart of him would be Russell Crow today.

accused of mediocrity

Pretty mediocre murder mystery with Vera Ralston totally unappealing as nightclub singer. Her hand motions during her opening number are hilarious. David Brian makes a convincing cop if not a convincing lover. Sidney Blackmer's reactions to Ralston's singing are pretty funny too. Filmed in Naturama, whatever that is

Highly entertaining

Norman, a well-intentioned but clumsy and simple filing clerk in the British Civil Service is taken to Geneva with the British delegation of an international conference. When one of the delegates falls ill, Norman stands in for him and accidentally vetos a British and US endorsed plan to set up an experimentation base near the unspoilt island of Tawaki. He is thrown off the delegation, but his move earns him the respect of the Queen of Tawaki, so when the British attempt to reopen negotiations with her, they must fawn over Norman in order to use him as an instrument of negotiation.

The first twenty minutes of this film are very funny - a mad mixture of misunderstandings, caricatures (including a camp photographer) and well executed visual humour. Unfortunately, the rest of the film is not as funny

• once the delegation arrives in Geneva, the humour is subordinated to the

plot. Nevertheless, the plot is sufficiently interesting and there are still enough jokes to make this film enjoyable throughout. The humour comes mostly from Norman's childishness and his tendency to cause disasters wherever he goes. It's good fun, even though most of the film is not laugh-out-loud funny. However, there are a few stand out scenes, including the very funny tailor scene. There are three songs in the film, which I thought were unnecessary.

Norman Wisdom gives a good performance as the naive simpleton Norman. It is his performance that makes the film - none of the other cast members particularly impressed me (perhaps because I'm not familiar with many of them.) They were all good nevertheless, but Wisdom is the definite star of this film. Charles Hawtrey's role is sadly only a cameo and isn't particularly funny. A highly entertaining film which ought to be more famous.

I've Got it

I was just sitting in my barrack's room watching this film today and I am so lucky to have it. It is a priceless treasure and it is what a great film is all about. It is a classic and I wish that everyone could see it. I cannot believe how selfish and wrong John Wayne's family are to keep the public from seeing this classic. SHAME ON THEM!!!!They are hiding a priceless treasure from all of us. THIS IS JOHN WAYNE"S FINEST FILM EVER!!!!He won an Academy Award for True Grit and should have won one for his portrayal of Dan Roman in this film. In 1988, they re-released The Manchurian Candidate so that a whole new generation of film goers could enjoy its greatness. They should do the same to this film. They should get the finest film technicians available to do a restoration of it and release it so that people today could see what a great film is. Look at the movies they come out with today, all the filth and violence and filty words they use. It is a disgrace. All the actors in this film do an amazing job.
